The Lisbon Jazz Sextet marks its 40th anniversary with a unique performance.
In 1984, the novelty was the emergence of a group composed solely of professional jazz musicians, with an expanded formation and an unprecedented front of wind instruments.
The Lisbon Jazz Sextet featured Mário Laginha (piano), Mário Barreiros (drums), Pedro Barreiros (double bass), Tomás Pimentel (trumpet), Edgar Caramelo (saxophone), and Jorge Reis (saxophone). Four years later, they released Ao Encontro with compositions by Mário Laginha and Tomás Pimentel.
After many concerts and more than two decades, the group renewed itself. The untimely passing of saxophonist Jorge Reis led to the inclusion of Ricardo Toscano and the young double bassist Francisco Brito, blending different generations in this collective that stands as the living history of jazz in Portugal.
