Protesters Gather in Martim Moniz Square
Hundreds of people have assembled in Lisbon's Martim Moniz square, marching in a demonstration calling for the release of four Portuguese citizens who participated in the Global Sumud humanitarian flotilla. The protesters, equipped with Palestinian flags, signs reading "Free Palestine," and colorful keffiyehs, are chanting slogans for a "Free Palestine" as they seek shade before the procession moves towards Rossio.
Chants and Slogans Echo Through the Streets
Among the chants, the crowd has revived the historic slogan in its original English: "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free." Additionally, "We are all anti-fascists" is another rallying cry heard during the protest, which began its descent from Martim Moniz to Rossio at 15:47.
Political Figures Weigh In
In statements to the Lusa news agency, Catarina Martins, former coordinator of the Left Bloc, Euro MP, and candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, who is present at the demonstration, mentioned that it is still unknown when the four Portuguese crew members of the flotilla will return to Portugal.
