Lisbon Cruise Port Achieves Historic April Performance
The Port of Lisbon has marked 2025 as its best April ever, setting new records in cruise passenger numbers, transit passengers, and ship calls. This achievement cements Lisbon's status as a top European cruise destination.
Record-Breaking Numbers
- 98,686 cruise passengers in April 2025, surpassing the previous 2019 record of 83,575.
- A 31% increase compared to April 2024.
- 68,668 transit passengers, beating the 2019 record of 65,841 and showing a 35% rise from April 2024.
- 55 ship calls, the highest for April, up by 8% from April 2024.
New Ships Making Their Debut
Five ships made their first call at Lisbon in April 2025:
- Caledonian Sky (by TravelMarvel, also a first-timer in Lisbon).
- MSC Seaside.
- Ocean Albatros (by Albatros Expeditions, also debuting in Lisbon).
- Volendam.
- Mein Schiff Relax (noted for its innovation and sustainability in the cruise industry).
Leadership's Perspective
Carlos Correia, President of the Lisbon Port Authority (APL), highlighted the port's growing appeal and commitment to sustainability. He emphasized the importance of attracting operators like Mein Schiff Relax, which align with Lisbon's vision for a more responsible and sustainable cruise sector.
Year-to-Date Growth
From January to April 2025, the port welcomed 155,364 cruise passengers, a 5% increase from the same period in 2024. The turnaround segment saw a 67% surge, while transit passengers slightly decreased by 9%.
Top Passenger Nationalities
- UK passengers led in April with 30,823, followed by the USA (21,369) and Germany (21,468).
- Year-to-date, the UK remains the top source with 49,856 passengers, ahead of the USA (34,808) and Germany (34,669).
