Manuel Matias, father of deputy Rita Matias and self-described "social consultant" on Facebook, and Bruno Mascarenhas, municipal deputy of Chega and the party's lead candidate for the upcoming local elections, found themselves in a heated exchange. The dispute centered around a recommendation for the construction of a mosque in the Martim Moniz area.
According to reports, Chega did not vote against a report accompanying the recommendation proposal, which is yet to be discussed in a Municipal Assembly. However, Manuel Matias took to Facebook to express his disbelief, stating, "I am certain the news does not correspond to the truth, otherwise there would have to be political consequences." This comment was seen as a direct message to the party.
Bruno Mascarenhas responded in the comments, expressing disappointment that Manuel Matias was "completely unaware of the dynamics and procedures of municipal assemblies." He suggested that if Matias were to run for local office, he should "consider taking a training course." Matias fired back, advising Mascarenhas to "take a course in Portuguese reading comprehension" before offering advice to others. He also noted that Mascarenhas' engagement with a "simple grassroots militant" might indicate the situation was not as straightforward as it seemed.
