Repeat Offender Caught Again in Alcântara
A PSP traffic stop operation in Alcântara led to the arrest of a 32-year-old man for driving without a legal license. What makes this case extraordinary is that this marks the 15th time this same individual has been detained by the same police force for the exact same offense - and he has always been released afterward.
Suspicious Digital Document from Guinea-Bissau
The incident occurred around 6:30 AM on Sunday, October 5th on Avenida Brasília. When PSP officers requested his documents, the driver presented only a digital driver's license from Guinea-Bissau - essentially a photo on his mobile phone. The document showed an issuance date of March 2023, but records indicated the man had entered Portuguese territory in March 2023. The timing discrepancy immediately raised suspicions of document forgery among the officers.
€600 Online Payment for Fake License
When questioned about why he didn't have a physical license, the man claimed he had received the digital document in March 2025 after making an online bank transfer of €600 using his Revolut card. Police proceeded with his arrest after checking the IMT's computer system and finding no valid driving license registered under the suspect's name.
Shocking Criminal History Revealed
A subsequent search in the PSP's computer system revealed the suspect had previously been detained 14 times for driving without a legal license. This astonishing repeat offense pattern highlights significant gaps in the judicial system's handling of such cases.
Additional Drug Charges
During a search of the vehicle, police discovered 149 doses of amphetamine and 139 doses of ecstasy, adding serious drug possession charges to the driving violations.
Legal Proceedings Underway
The suspect has been taken to the detention cells of the Lisbon Metropolitan Command and will be presented before a court. The specific coercive measures to be applied remain unknown at this time.
