Lisbon Metro Workers Continue Strike for Better Benefits
Workers at the Lisbon Metro are carrying out their second day of a partial strike today, demanding increases in meal, vacation, and Christmas allowances, as well as changes to the maximum weekly working hours. No minimum services have been decreed by the arbitration court, leading to a complete halt in operations during the morning hours, with full service expected to resume around 10:30 AM.
Details of the Strike Action
The decision to proceed with the strikes on September 9 and today was made during a plenary session held on Monday night, where proposals from the company were rejected. The stoppage is scheduled as follows:
- 05:00 to 10:00 for operational workers
- 07:00 to 12:00 for workshop sector workers
- 07:30 to 12:30 for fixed and administrative sector workers
- 02:00 to 07:00 for night and way service workers
Workers were awaiting a new proposal from the company to decide on continuing the strike today. The Lisbon Metro appealed on Wednesday to the representative organizations to suspend the partial strike, reiterating its openness to "serious and responsible dialogue."
