President Marcelo Dines on Alentejo Specialties in German Restaurant
On Friday, the President of the Republic was received by his German counterpart in Berlin. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa spent the morning with Steinmeier, to whom he offered bottles of wine and a silver box, discussing relations between the two countries, the future of Autoeuropa, BMW, and the partnership between the ports of Sines and Duisburg. Also on the table was the recognition of Palestine, which the Portuguese head of state considered "premature to talk about concretely."
A Taste of Portugal in Germany
Following the meeting, lunch was held at the restaurant A Telha, run by Alentejo emigrants. "The President ate lamb chops and starter tapas, with Alentejo wine," Marcelino Prazeres, the owner of the establishment, told CM. A native of Amareleja and in Germany for 30 years, he stated that he served more than 40 people and that "everything went well." "He said everything was spectacular and invited me to come to the Belém Palace one day," he revealed.
Controversy Surrounding the Visit
The visit to the Bürgerfest, where Portugal is the guest country this year, ends this Saturday and was surrounded by controversy. Chega voted against the trip, thinking it was a hamburger festival and not a party to "honor voluntary work and promote civic engagement." Upon arrival in the German capital, Marcelo refused to comment on André Ventura's position.
