Luís Montenegro, the Prime Minister, expressed his confidence that the current legislature will last its full four-year term, ready to face the "highs and lows" of the journey. Speaking to journalists before participating in the Bike Tour Lisboa-Oeiras, a cycling event connecting Praça do Comércio to Oeiras, Montenegro shared his thoughts on the challenges ahead.
"I am sure it will be a four-year term. It's a long race, made up of various stages. Some stages are flatter, more for rollers, and others have more ups and downs, more for climbers," he said, drawing a parallel to cycling. "I am prepared to climb and descend the mountains. It's as important to climb as it is to descend."
He emphasized the importance of measuring effort carefully during both ascents and descents, noting that "whoever descends poorly can fall." Montenegro also highlighted the need to calibrate effort to endure the entire race, mobilizing all the country's forces towards this goal.
The Prime Minister also mentioned that the upcoming week would be demanding, particularly due to the ongoing selection of government members. "We are still in the process of choosing the government members," he added.
President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa recently stated his belief that Montenegro has a "good framework of stability and durability" ahead, which he considers positive for the country. The President hopes to swear in the entire government before the June 10 holiday, either in a joint ceremony or in two separate events.
