Shocking Domestic Violence in Algarve: Man Stabs Wife in Front of Children

A 51-year-old man was arrested by the Judicial Police, Southern Directorate, on strong suspicion of attempted qualified homicide. The incident occurred in Olhão last Friday night, targeting his 42-year-old wife.

The attack took place inside the family home, allegedly over trivial reasons, using a sharp object, in the presence of their minor children aged 6 and 11.

The severity of the injuries necessitated emergency services, leading to her admission to the Local Health Unit of the Algarve in Faro, followed by a transfer to Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon.

The suspect was located by the Republican National Guard in the Olhão area approximately 12 hours after the incident.

Following the investigation, significant evidence was gathered, resulting in the arrest of the alleged perpetrator.

The detainee was brought before judicial authorities for questioning and will await further investigation in preventive detention.

The investigation is being conducted by the Olhão Department of Investigation and Penal Action.
