A PSP officer from the Lisbon Traffic Division was hospitalized after being run over by a suspect vehicle during a routine stop. The incident occurred around 10:00 AM on Travessa São Domingos de Benfica. The officer sustained head and hip injuries and was promptly taken to Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon.
The suspect vehicle, which was found to contain drugs and a firearm, was abandoned at the scene. Inside, authorities discovered an undetermined quantity of drugs and a 6.35 mm caliber pistol. Three suspects managed to flee and are currently being sought by the PSP.
The officer was part of a team conducting a stop-and-search operation when the driver suddenly accelerated, hitting the officer before escaping. This brazen act highlights the dangers law enforcement officers face daily while ensuring public safety.
