Pedro Passos Coelho's Political Stance
Former Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho has announced his intention to remain outside of political and party activities. This declaration comes at a time when he is frequently mentioned as a potential candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in the upcoming 2026 elections.
"I am out of political and party activity, and I intend to stay that way," Passos Coelho stated as he arrived at the FEP Global Summit - a student summit focused on geopolitics held in Porto. Despite persistent inquiries from journalists regarding a possible candidacy for the presidency, he reiterated that he had nothing more to say at this time.
He further emphasized, "I do not want to make political statements; if I wanted to, I would do so, obviously."
The former PSD leader's participation in the summit, which addressed international politics and its challenges, was closed to the media.
Although the presidential elections are not scheduled until January 2026, names of potential candidates are already circulating, with Pedro Passos Coelho being one of them. According to a recent poll by Intercampus, published last Monday, Admiral Gouveia e Melo is currently the leading candidate for the presidency, holding a nearly 10-point lead over Passos Coelho.
