Innovation and Digitalization for Energy Sustainability and Territorial Cohesion

Ports of Sines and Algarve and the Ports of Madeira have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in innovation and digitalization, building on their existing partnership focused on the green and digital transition.

Committed to deepening institutional collaboration between these port authorities, this agreement outlines a collaborative strategy for structuring projects in innovation. It emphasizes key areas such as the operation and development of JUL – Janela Única Logística (Single Logistics Window) and innovative solutions from the Agenda NEXUS.

Leveraging the technical specificities of each port, the partnership between APS (Administração dos Portos de Sines e do Algarve) and APRAM (Administração dos Portos da Região Autónoma da Madeira) aims to ensure the operational sustainability of JUL. This promotes a collaborative model that values territorial cohesion and strengthens national leadership in the digital transformation of the maritime-port sector.

To further promote cohesion and knowledge sharing among national ports, Sines and Madeira are coordinating collaboration under the Agenda NEXUS. This includes the deployment of the Plataforma de Dados Abertos (Open Data Platform), a digital tool for integrated monitoring and management. It provides real-time and predictive insights into port and logistics operations, serving as a strategic and operational coordination center. By aggregating data from various systems, it enables more informed, rapid, and collaborative decision-making.

Additionally, foundations have been laid for a partnership in cybersecurity, through the activities of the Port Cyber Arena. This infrastructure is of high strategic value for enhancing the cyber-resilience of the national port and logistics system.
