Tragedy Strikes in Switzerland: Portuguese Worker Killed in Building Collapse

A tragic accident in Prilly, Switzerland, has claimed the life of a Portuguese worker and left eight others seriously injured. The incident occurred on Friday, July 12th, around 8:30 AM local time, when scaffolding collapsed on a 19-story building under construction.

The building, located in the Malley-Lumières commercial center, was still under construction and was expected to be a prominent architectural landmark in the area. Authorities are still working to determine the nationalities of all the injured, but it is known that the second fatality was an Albanian citizen, and the nationality of the third victim is yet to be confirmed.

Emergency responders, including firefighters and paramedics, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Rescue efforts are ongoing, and authorities are still searching for potential survivors among the rubble. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation, but witnesses reported hearing a loud crash followed by a large cloud of dust.

The Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the death of the Portuguese worker and expressed condolences to the victim's family. The President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, also issued a statement expressing his condolences to the families of the victims and the Portuguese community in Switzerland.

This tragic accident highlights the dangers of construction work and underscores the importance of prioritizing safety measures. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the collapse, and it is likely that a criminal investigation will be opened to determine if any negligence contributed to the accident.

The investigation will focus on the stability and safety of the remaining scaffolding on the building. A security perimeter has been established around the site, and the deteriorating weather conditions are making it difficult for authorities to conduct their investigations.
