PSD's Paulo Luís Elected Mayor of Vila de Rei with Absolute Majority

The newly elected mayor of Vila de Rei, Paulo César Luís (PSD), reacted to his victory with an absolute majority in Sunday's local elections with a feeling of "duty fulfilled" and described the result as "unforgettable and grand", emphasizing that the PSD in Vila de Rei had "never achieved such a big victory".

The PPD/PSD won the local elections in Vila de Rei by an absolute majority, with results confirmed across all three parishes, according to data from the Ministry of Internal Administration. The PPD/PSD secured 69.37% of the votes, followed by the PS with 13.11%, Chega with 10.85%, and the CDU with 3.2%.

Paulo César Laranjeira Luís was elected mayor of Vila de Rei with an absolute majority, maintaining his position after having replaced Ricardo Aires, who was elected in 2021.

The mayor begins his first full term leading the municipality of Vila de Rei with the absolute majority he won on Sunday, not only securing all three parishes in the municipality but also achieving a full sweep with all five elected members in the executive, at the expense of the PS, which lost the single councilor it had won in 2021.

"We reinforced the votes from four years ago, and it shows that the people know what they want. It also shows that the people chose a path with a project, a path where the accounts were settled, and penalized those who came to this election just because, because they wanted to impose themselves on the people and the parties and were crushed at the polls," said Paulo Luís.

In statements to mediotejo.net, the mayor highlighted the responsibility that comes with a victory that guaranteed the PSD all five mandates in the municipal executive, leaving the PS without representation.

"It is an enormous responsibility given the result we obtained, because it will force us to be even more self-critical from now on. We no longer have opposition in the executive, we made a full sweep with the number of mandates for the executive, and of course, given a victory like this, I have to be proud of myself, but above all of my team, which helped us carry out this project. I consider that what we set out to do, which was to achieve what had never been done before, is accomplished," he stated.

The social democrat assured that the priority of his term will be to fully implement the electoral program presented to the residents of Vila de Rei. "Our priority is what is in our program. We have a well-structured program, with clear guidelines, with many activities we propose to do, and what I can promise is that what is in our program is to be fulfilled," he said.

"We will make every effort to remain close to the populations, to justify the vote of confidence that was given to us, and so that in 4 years we can take stock of what we actually accomplished and what we did not accomplish, and why we did not accomplish it," he added.

Addressing the community of Vila de Rei, the elected mayor left a word of thanks to the voters. "Thank you very much for the testimony of confidence and the willingness to walk this path together. We always proposed a path, our slogan is exactly that, and Vila de Rei decided on this path. I am confident that together we will be able, at the end of these 4 years, to be much better than we are today," he concluded.
