REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais and E-Redes have requested the energy regulator to classify the recent blackout as an 'exceptional event', a move that could exempt them from paying millions in compensation to affected businesses.
After initially requesting a 10-day extension (from May 18 to May 28) to submit their final report on the blackout, REN has now delivered the document to the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE).
ERSE confirmed to Negócios that both REN and E-Redes have submitted their reports, seeking the classification that would relieve them of financial liabilities. The outcome of this request could set a significant precedent for how similar incidents are handled in the future.
