Santa Casa March Prepares for Iconic Parade
The Santa Casa March held its final rehearsal this Wednesday, ensuring everything is set for the eagerly anticipated descent down Avenida da Liberdade. Tonight, celebrations will also take place at Largo Trindade Coelho, featuring a traditional festival and the drawing of the Santo António Classic Lottery.
Final Rehearsal Before the Big Day
With just hours to go before the grand parade of the Popular Marches, for which dozens have worked for months, the Santa Casa March conducted its last general rehearsal at the Vale Fundão Multisports Pavilion. Decorated arches, impeccable costumes, and high spirits are all in place for tomorrow's parade at 7 PM.
A Display of Dedication and Professionalism
The music is memorized, and the steps are rehearsed to perfection, showcasing the marchants' dedication. Though amateurs, they perform like professionals, adhering strictly to the choreography by Paulo Jesus, the march's longtime choreographer. This year's godparents are once again Liliana Santos and Pedro Crispim.
This Year's Theme: "Santa Casa is the City's Mantle"
The march features 24 effective pairs, one substitute pair, two mascots, and a flag bearer. The group, diverse in age from 28 to 80, proves that age is no barrier to participating in Lisbon's marches.
Join the Celebration
Don't miss the Santa Casa March parade this Thursday at 7 PM. Your support is crucial to show once again that "our March is beautiful."
Largo Trindade Coelho Comes Alive on Santo António Night
For the first time in its 240-year history, the Classic Lottery drawing will occur late at night to coincide with Lisbon's "longest night of the year." Under the motto "In the Popular Saints, luck sets up camp," the drawing will take place at 10 PM in the iconic Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa drawing room. The event is open to the public, who can witness the sphere rolling and the famous chant of the auctioneers. Before the drawing, at 9:30 PM, fado singer Camané will perform. Additionally, Largo Trindade Coelho will host a traditional festival starting at 4 PM.
