April marked a historic high for Portugal's national airports, with an average of 110,000 passengers daily, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE). This represents an 8% increase compared to the same period last year.
Lisbon's airport was the busiest, handling over half of all passengers since the beginning of the year, with a 2.3% growth and a total of 10.7 million passengers. Faro Airport saw an 8.1% increase in passenger movement (2.2 million; 11% of the total), while Porto Airport accounted for 23% of the total passengers (4.7 million), with a 4.5% increase.
The United Kingdom emerged as the primary origin and destination for flights in the first four months of 2025, surpassing France, which dropped to second place. Spain maintained its third position.
In terms of cargo and mail movement, there was a slight increase of 0.7% in the first four months of the year. Lisbon Airport dominated this sector, accounting for 78.4% of the total, with 63,900 tons, a 2.3% rise from the same period in 2024.
The INE noted that daily movements are influenced by seasonal and weekly fluctuations, recalling that in 2024, Sunday was the busiest day for passenger arrivals.
