Sardine fishing with seine nets is prohibited between June 21 and 23 in the Algarve, according to a note from the General Directorate of Natural Resources, Security and Maritime Services (DGRM).
The ban on sardine fishing applies "in the jurisdiction area of the port captaincies of Olhãopesca and Barlapescas, from 18:00 on Saturday (June 21) to 18:00 on Monday (June 23) - Captaincies of Olhão, Faro Tavira, Vila Real de Santo António, Lagos and Portimão", it specified.
The DGRM is a central service of the direct administration of the State, with administrative autonomy, which aims to develop safety and maritime services, the execution of fishing policies and the preservation of resources.
