A new era for healthcare in Sintra begins as the New Hospital of Sintra was inaugurated this Monday, marking a significant milestone for the Serviço Nacional de Saúde (SNS). This state-of-the-art facility, fully funded by the Sintra Municipality, is set to serve approximately 400,000 residents, offering 24-hour emergency services, consultations, and surgeries across various specialties.

- 4 main operating rooms and 2 minor surgery rooms
- 34 medical consultation offices
- 54 examination rooms
- 24/7 Basic Emergency Service

- 60,000 emergency episodes
- 8,000 surgeries
A Pioneering Public-Private Partnership The hospital represents a first in Portugal, being the first public hospital entirely financed by a local authority. The Sintra Municipality invested €63.8 million in its construction, delivering a fully equipped facility to the SNS. The project, which took three years and ten months to complete, involved significant construction efforts, including 119,000 m³ of earth movement and 24,063 m³ of concrete applied.
Advanced Clinical Services and Technology The hospital boasts a wide range of medical and surgical specialties, including Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and a Mental Health Unit. It is also equipped with advanced diagnostic tools such as CT scans, MRI, ultrasound, clinical analyses, cardiology, and pneumology services.
Sustainability and Efficiency Emphasizing technology and sustainability, the hospital features integrated information systems, advanced ventilation, waste management, and energy efficiency measures.
Integrated Healthcare Response Fully integrated into the ULS Amadora/Sintra, the hospital will work in tandem with the Hospital Professor Doutor Fernando Fonseca to provide a coordinated and continuous response to patients, enhancing care quality and efficiency.
