Warm Weather Brings Tourists to the Algarve

The sun is shining, temperatures are rising, and the beaches are filling up. Although it’s still April, the scene resembles summer, as tourists seize the long weekend for seaside mini-vacations.

Sónia, traveling from Paris to Quarteira with her family, expressed her delight at the warm weather: "The kids are on break, and since the weather is nice, we came to enjoy the beach. We really like the Algarve, and for me, this is the ideal month to visit. There are few people, and it’s very warm for April."

On the holiday yesterday, temperatures peaked at 27 degrees, with forecasts predicting around 25 degrees until Sunday, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

While the warm weather invites swimming, caution is advised as the summer sun belies the still-cold ocean temperatures. At this time of year, beach safety measures have not yet been activated, meaning most beaches lack lifeguards, and response to emergencies could be delayed.

"We’re being careful, especially with our small child. We’re just going to the water’s edge, dipping our toes, but always with great caution," a tourist shared with CM.

The National Maritime Authority (AMN) recommends exercising caution near the water, paying close attention to children, and avoiding risky behaviors. Across the country, Navy personnel are on alert for potential hazards in unmonitored beach areas.
