Health Ministry Orders Investigation into Patient's Death
The Ministry of Health has requested an audit from the Inspection-General of Health Activities (IGAS) to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of a 77-year-old woman who was on a ventilator during a power outage on Monday.
This decision follows a report by RTP, highlighting that the victim's family believes her death was due to the power failure. In a statement to SIC, the Ministry acknowledged awareness of the situation and emphasized the need for a thorough investigation.
"Upon learning of a potential victim caused by the power cut on April 28, the Minister of Health decided to request an audit from IGAS for a complete clarification of the case," stated the ministry.
According to information provided to the Minister's office by INEM, the victim had multiple comorbidities and was at home at the time of the incident. The ministry elaborated that the emergency call to 112 was received at 15:52, and a Medical Emergency Vehicle (VMER) was dispatched five minutes later after a clinical triage was performed. An ambulance was also sent, and the death was declared by the VMER team.
