Algarve Tourism Heads to England to Promote Nautical Segment
The Algarve Tourism Board is making a strategic move to the Southampton International Boat Show, the largest nautical event in the UK and one of Europe's most significant, running from September 19 to 28. This initiative is part of the 'Internacionalizar + Algarve 3.0' project, developed in partnership with NERA – the Business Association of the Algarve Region and local nautical stations. The primary goals are to enhance international promotion of recreational nautical offerings and position the Algarve as a top-tier destination in this segment.
With over 100,000 visitors per edition, this event provides a unique platform to showcase the region's world-class infrastructure and equipment, which have received international awards, along with a wide range of personalized services and experiences for various types of sailors. André Gomes, President of Algarve Tourism, emphasized, "The Algarve now offers a diverse and sophisticated nautical experience that goes beyond the traditional sun and sea." He views this presence in Southampton as a crucial step to solidify the region's recognition as a leading nautical destination, attract new markets, and demonstrate year-round tourism capabilities.
Featuring approximately 4,000 berths, international-level marinas, and certified nautical stations, the Algarve caters to a broad spectrum of travelers. Activities range from adrenaline-pumping options like surfing, kitesurfing, and powerboating to more serene experiences such as sailing tours, cave visits, diving, sport fishing, and marine life observation.
Beyond leisure, the Algarve is increasingly becoming a preferred location for hosting high-competition international events and serving as an official training base for professional teams worldwide. This product diversity, combined with a favorable climate and direct air links to multiple markets, reinforces nautical tourism as a strategic segment in the destination's promotion plan. It aims to reduce seasonality and sustainably boost the coastal economy.
