Algarve Introduces Unified Transport Pass for Vamus Network
Users of road passenger transport in the Algarve will be able to travel on all routes of the Vamus network with a single ticket starting in September, announced the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve (AMAL) this Friday.
The Passe Algarve, with a monthly cost of 40 euros, will be valid for all interurban lines and routes, regardless of the distance traveled or the number of transfers, with only the AeroBus service excluded, AMAL stated in a press release.
The creation of the pass was approved this month in the Intermunicipal Council of AMAL, the entity that brings together the 16 municipalities of the region. The measure comes under the funding secured by the Incentiva +TP program, aimed at promoting and encouraging collective public passenger transport.
According to AMAL, the new ticket "does not replace existing passes with lower prices," which will remain unchanged to not harm those who only need shorter trips. "The allocation of free passes, already in effect for all young people, will also be maintained," it emphasizes.
With this initiative, regional authorities aim to facilitate mobility, offer an economical and comfortable alternative to individual transport, and stimulate the use of public transport. AMAL expects that the purchase of the Passe Algarve can begin from Tuesday, as read in the note.
The name Vamus was created by AMAL to name the Sustainable Urban Mobility project that took place in 2017. In 2021, the name began to be used for the new public road passenger transport service network in the Algarve region.
