AMAL Participates in Environment and Soft Mobility Meetings
The Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve (AMAL) was present at the 10th meeting of the Local Climate Action Monitoring Council (CLA) of Loulé on Tuesday, May 20. The event, part of the Climate Week from May 19 to 25, focused on Climate Justice. AMAL contributed to the panel The Impact of Municipal Climate Action on Territory and Society, moderated by Professor Luísa Schmidt.
Loulé is a national pioneer in climate action, being the first municipality to approve a Municipal Climate Action Plan. AMAL is currently implementing the Intermunicipal Climate Action Plan for the Algarve (PIAC-AMAL), set to conclude in the first half of 2026. This plan aims to:
- Revise the PIAAC-AMAL, adjusting measures to current climate adaptation options.
- Define a strategy for carbon neutrality.
- Align intermunicipal climate planning with municipal plans.
- Establish a monitoring system for climate action.
- Promote intelligent climate action governance in the Algarve.
In soft mobility, AMAL participated in the 5th Meeting of the EuroVelo 1 – Atlantic Coast Route Partners Network on May 15 in Tavira. The meeting addressed the EuroVelo 1 Ecovia do Litoral as a regional development factor. Key stakeholders include:
- The Portuguese Federation of Cyclists and Bicycle Users (FPCUB).
- Tourism of Portugal.
- Regional Tourism Entities.
- Intermunicipal Communities.
The EuroVelo 1 route in the Algarve runs along the Ecovia do Litoral and the Vicentina Coast Cycle Path, from Vila Real de Santo António to Odeceixe, extending north to Caminha. Challenges include route interruptions, with solutions expected under the ALGARVE 2030 community framework.
