A Rally with a Rich History
A founding round of the WRC’s inaugural season in 1973, Portugal has been a mainstay of the championship, missing only a brief hiatus between 2002 and 2006. Known for its challenging stages like Fafe and Arganil, the rally is a favorite among drivers and fans alike.
Fan Support Key to Decision
Simon Larkin, WRC Promoter's Senior Events Director, highlighted the unparalleled fan support as a crucial factor in the decision. "We only need to look around us here [in Fafe, on the Wolf Power Stage] to see what an important spectacle this is – sporting, promotional and spectator-wise," he said.
Economic and Cultural Impact
Carlos Barbosa, President of Automóvel Club de Portugal (ACP), emphasized the rally's economic benefits and the trust placed by local mayors and tourism bodies. "The confidence of WRC Promoter is very important, so we are very glad to push for another three years of the rally," Barbosa stated.

A Unifying Event
The rally's success is also attributed to the collaboration of various stakeholders, including municipalities and tourism bodies, brought together by President Barbosa. "President Barbosa does a great job bringing them together to create this great rally that everyone in the WRC loves," Larkin added.
