With a vast career behind him, he took a moment to thank all who have collaborated with him over the years. "If I have any merit, it is in gathering a team of dedicated collaborators, whether in my studio, the Faro City Council, or the CCDR Algarve. I also thank my many teachers, without whom I might not have fulfilled my duties as well," he stated, emphasizing the good fortune he had in working with clients who granted freedom in his projects.

Award Highlights

The award ceremony, organized by the Regional Section of Algarve of the Architects' Order, also recognized outstanding works across four categories and introduced the inaugural edition of the magazine “Interseções-Algarve”, themed around Modernism.

In the Single or Two-Family Housing category, the winner was the House in Praia Verde by architect José Martinez Silva, with a special mention for Casa do Limoeiro by Alexandre Loureiro. The winner for Equipment, Services, or Industry was the Museu Casa do Colecionador by Filipe Rodrigues, while the Architecture and Landscape category honored the Parque Verde da Ribeira de Aljezur by António Marques. The award for Best Rehabilitation Work went to Casa Amor by Tatiana Bento, with a special mention for Casa Raul Lino by Ambra Zotti.

Maia praised the presented works and the architects involved, wishing them double the luck he experienced throughout his career. He remarked, "Being an architect today is much more challenging than it was in the 80s and 90s."

Despite being a relatively new award, Ricardo Latoeiro, president of the Algarve regional section of the Order, noted that participation has been excellent and hopes it continues to grow, showcasing the best of Algarve architecture to the world.

The Career Award, previously recognized but less formal, has been consolidated with the help of Siza Vieira, who was invited to design the award's trophy. Latoeiro shared, "When we challenged him, he immediately began designing the piece, showcasing immense generosity."

The 4th Algarve Architecture Awards were supported by the Faro Municipality, Água Monchique, and P3 – Engineering Projects, in partnership with the Portuguese Association of Landscape Architects.
