In a significant maritime operation, the Portuguese Maritime Police (PM) seized 876 kilograms of narcotics off the Algarve coast near Vila Real de Santo António this Thursday. The operation was part of a routine patrol and maritime surveillance mission south of the Guadiana River's mouth, within Portuguese territorial waters, as detailed by the National Maritime Authority (AMN) in a statement.
The narcotics were packed in 21 bales, totaling approximately 876 kilograms. During the recovery of the material, which was en route to Spanish territorial waters, Spanish authorities were immediately contacted to take over the collection process.
The Local Command of the Maritime Police in Vila Real de Santo António has registered the incident, and the seized narcotics are set to be handed over to the Judicial Police for further investigation.
