The afternoon at Madeira Airport has been bustling, but only on the ground, with hundreds of passengers undoubtedly waiting for the plane they are supposed to board to manage to land. Only six flights succeeded in achieving this goal, the last of which at 8:32 PM.
Since 4 PM, that is, in the last five hours, six flights were diverted to Porto Santo, Porto, Faro, and the Canary Islands, with several cancellations also counted. This means six flights returned to their origin or didn't even take off, as was the case with the inter-island flight from Porto Santo.
The island of Porto Santo received five flights diverted from Madeira. There are still eight flights expected to arrive tonight until 11:45 PM, with only three flights scheduled after midnight in the early hours of Sunday (after 1:15 AM). Operations at Madeira Airport are set to resume at 8:00 AM.
It's worth noting that we're only referring to flights that were supposed to arrive and not those that were supposed to depart, so, in principle, these numbers should double.
