Summary:

  • Chega wins Lisbon municipal election by just 3 votes over the CDU coalition

  • Two council seats secured for Chega, while CDU is reduced to one councilor

  • CDU claims 60 uncounted votes in São Domingos de Benfica parish could have changed results

  • Provisional results showed 11-vote difference that cost CDU a council seat compared to 2021

Chega Wins Lisbon by a Razor-Thin Margin

In a stunningly close result, Chega has secured 26,755 votes in Lisbon's municipal elections, beating the CDU coalition by just three votes. This narrow victory confirms the distribution of council seats, with Chega gaining two councilors and the CDU reduced to one, according to the general counting assembly.

Uncounted Votes Spark Controversy

The CDU, a coalition of the PCP and PEV, claimed on Tuesday that 60 votes in the São Domingos de Benfica parish "were not counted" during Sunday's local elections. These uncounted votes could have potentially altered the outcome, highlighting the election's extreme tightness.

Provisional Results Show Significant Shift

Based on provisional results from the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Internal Administration, the CDU was initially overtaken by Chega in the Lisbon City Council election by a mere 11-vote difference. This shift resulted in the loss of one communist councilor in the capital compared to the two elected in 2021, marking a significant political change in Lisbon's governance.
