Discover One of Lisbon's Oldest Traditional Fairs
The Sintra Municipal Council is organizing another edition of the Feira das Mercês, one of the oldest saloia fairs in the Lisbon region, running from October 17-19 and October 24-26, 2025, with free admission.
Immerse Yourself in Traditional Portuguese Culture
The Feira das Mercês, organized by the Sintra Municipal Council in partnership with the Algueirão - Mem Martins and Rio de Mouro Parish Councils, offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy six days of fun and ethnographic saloia entertainment, discover regional crafts, sample typical gastronomy, and enjoy live music performances. The activities are diverse and suitable for all ages.
Live Music and Entertainment Schedule
Animation is guaranteed with performances by:
- Manel do Barril on October 17
- Bombocas on October 18
- Ruth Marlene on October 24
- Rebeca on October 25
All performances start at 10:00 PM.
Traditional Ethnographic Showcase
The usual Ethnographic Show takes place on October 25 with participation from several folk groups based in the municipality, including:
- Rancho Folclórico Etnográfico e Saloio do M.T.B.A.
- Rancho Folclórico e Etnográfico "As Mondadeiras do Algueirão"
- Grupo Folclórico de Belas
- Grupo Folclórico e Cultural da Rinchoa – Sintra
- Rancho Folclórico "As Vendedeiras" Saloias de Sintra
Religious Tradition and Historical Significance
The religious moment of this tradition features a mass and procession in honor of the Patron Saint, starting at 3:00 PM on October 26.
The Feira das Mercês began in the 18th century on land at Quinta da Tapada, which belonged to the Marquis of Pombal, and has always taken place in the same location. This saloia fair keeps tradition alive, bringing the festivals, music, and customs of yesteryear to the present day.
