Faro Municipal Pools Temporarily Shut Down
The Municipality of Faro has announced the temporary closure of the Faro Municipal Pools due to technical reasons linked to worsening air and water quality control conditions. This situation has been exacerbated by the significant degradation of the building, which is over 30 years old, and the associated machinery, necessitating urgent structural requalification works.
This difficult decision is acknowledged to have significant impacts on the community, particularly affecting sports clubs that conduct training activities there, as well as numerous citizens who engage in regular activities, either individually or through various municipal projects.
Aware of the importance of this facility for sports dynamism in the municipality and for promoting population well-being, the City Council is already preparing a set of procedures and measures to mitigate the effects of this closure, including:
- Direct support for affected sports clubs to ensure the continuity of their training programs.
- Identification and provision of alternatives to maintain, as much as possible, the regular practice of municipal activities such as the Senior Active project for gymnastics and water aerobics.
Given the structural scope of the requalification works at the Faro Municipal Pools, these will necessarily involve a public tender process and subsequent approval by the Court of Auditors. The duration of this intervention is estimated to be no less than 18 months.
The community's understanding is appreciated, and the commitment to finding solutions that meet the needs of residents is reiterated, within a framework of responsibility, transparency, and rigor in the management of public facilities, hoping for a swift resolution to this situation.
