A Mother's Grief and Defiance
Alzira Trindade, the mother of Manuel Trindade, the young forcado (bullfighter) who lost his life during a bullfight, has written an open letter on her Facebook page in response to the negative reactions that emerged after her son's death.
In the heartfelt outpouring, directed at the PAN (People-Animals-Nature party) and its followers, the mother ironically thanks those who celebrated the tragedy: "I come to thank all your applause, all the laughter and rejoicing at the death of my son. Did you know him to be happy with his death? Do you know if he liked animals? Actually, yes! We always had dogs, which are part of our family, they slept with him, laughed when he came home… animals know who the good people are!!!"
Defending Honor and Courage
Alzira Trindade defended her son's honor and courage, recalling his connection to the forcado group he was part of: "My son belonged to a group of brothers who wear a jacket with honor, with bravery. These groups never harmed a bull, they handled it with art!"
The mother expressed outrage at offensive comments about her son's death: "My son never bothered you for you to say 'we got rid of another one', 'this one is taken care of'. In your perspective, my son is not an animal. But he is! A rational animal!!!"
Comparing to Other Risky Sports
In the text, Alzira Trindade compared bullfighting to other risk sports: "Why don't you criticize Formula 1 drivers, boxers, skiers, rappelling enthusiasts… so many sports that put the life of the rational animal at risk."
Organ Donation Revelation
In a tone of pain and irony, she revealed that her son was an organ donor and that, even after passing, he will help others live: "I am here in my house, passing time… waiting… for them to hand over the body of my 'Golden Boy'. Yes, waiting!!! Because he, that animal, went to be an organ donor and thus help seven lives of rational animals!!! Look, celebrate… he will continue to live in seven people to bother you."
The letter ends challengingly: "I won't take up any more of your time with my outburst, you can continue to wish me condolences and support with your 'known' affection. If you have the courage!!! Celebrate."
