Red Seagull's 'Body Salva' Initiative Wraps Up with Success
The third edition of the 'Body Salva' action, organized by the Faro Municipal Council as part of the Blue Flag program, concluded on September 7 at Praia de Faro, coinciding with the Municipality Day. This free initiative, open to all ages, spanned the summer months of July, August, and September, covering locations like Ilha da Culatra, Farol, and Praia de Faro, and attracted approximately 43 participants, including both children and adults.
Throughout the sessions, beachgoers learned essential skills for safely rescuing victims from the water using reach and throw methods, as well as techniques for transport and basic life support (BLS), with a strong emphasis on drowning prevention, self-protection, and providing safe assistance to others. Key topics covered included:
- Reading sea conditions and identifying common risks.
- Beach safety rules and guidelines for sand-water transition zones.
- Approaching a victim safely without endangering oneself.
- The chain of survival and activating emergency services via 112.
- Essential first aid steps until specialized help arrives.
The sessions were described as highly interactive and educational, featuring practical demonstrations and participatory exercises in small groups with technical supervision.
Michelle Romero, a representative, highlighted the goal: "We want every person to leave these sessions with more confidence and tools to prevent and respond to risky situations in aquatic environments."
Given the positive feedback, the organization plans to continue and expand the program next year, offering more activities focused on water safety education.
