Despite securing an additional deputy compared to the last elections—nine instead of eight achieved in 2024, with 5.53% (330,149 votes)—the party led by Rui Rocha admits it could have grown further. "We could have grown more, but we did everything we could, and looking at the campaign we ran, I wouldn't have done anything differently," stated Rocha.
The liberal leader took the opportunity in his speech to send a message to Luís Montenegro, emphasizing that "the IL's position on ethics, rigor, and transparency is not up for trade" and that the party will remain "true to itself." However, he acknowledged that "the path may take longer."
He added: "I had said we would be a guarantee of governability, a solution for the country, to the extent that it depended on us. But looking at the results, we see that the possible majorities are already formed. We are available to negotiate but remain faithful to ourselves; we will not betray the trust of those who voted for us."
According to Rui Rocha, the party will continue on its path. "I wouldn't trade this position for anything. The path may be slower, but we won't change," the IL leader highlighted.
