Four women from Eastern Europe were caught red-handed by Lisbon's PSP police on Rua Augusta, moments after they robbed a North American tourist. The incident occurred around 4:30 PM on Monday, with officers witnessing the crime as it unfolded.
The thieves managed to open the victim's backpack, stealing a Louis Vuitton wallet valued at 500 euros. Inside the wallet were 458 dollars, 50 euros, four bank cards, and other important documents. The victim's and her husband's passports were also in the bag but, fortunately, all items were returned.
The quick action of the PSP highlights the ongoing issue of pickpocketing in tourist-heavy areas of Lisbon, reminding visitors to stay vigilant.
