New Nationality Desk Opens in Lisbon
The Institute of Registries and Notaries (IRN) has announced the opening of a new nationality desk in Parque das Nações, Lisbon, starting this Monday, September 1, 2025. This facility will provide in-person services for citizenship applications.
In a statement, the IRN explained that this new desk will centralize all in-person services previously handled at the Central Registry Office on Rua Rodrigo da Fonseca and the Expo Registrations Space in Lisbon. This reorganization aims to offer more space, better facilities, greater comfort, and improved accessibility, enhancing the quality of service for citizens.
The new desk, located at Alameda dos Oceanos, No. 67-L, will be open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM for both scheduled and walk-in appointments, with extended hours until 7:00 PM for scheduled services only. Citizens with existing appointments at the old locations are being contacted by the IRN to confirm dates and inform them of the new address.
Despite the new in-person option, the IRN continues to recommend using non-face-to-face channels, such as postal mail for submitting nationality applications and documents, or the online portal at justica.gov.pt. The online service is exclusive and mandatory for legal representatives like lawyers and solicitors representing foreign citizens in nationality requests.
To mark the opening, the Secretary of State for Justice, Ana Luísa Machado, will visit the new desk on Monday at 2:30 PM.
