IL's Bold Moves in Parliament
In her first major address as party leader, Mariana Leitão of the Iniciativa Liberal (IL) has announced a series of proposals set to shake up Portugal's political landscape. The IL plans to submit measures to Parliament aimed at rejecting the controversial "chat control" legislation and shutting down public companies that fail to provide proper "reports and accounts."
Key Announcements
Leitão criticized rival parties, accusing the PSD of lacking the "courage to change" and the Chega of thriving on "resentment" without offering real solutions. She positioned the IL as the "only alternative," emphasizing their commitment to efficiency and accountability in government.
A central part of the proposal involves conducting an evaluation of the public administration to identify and dismiss "excess" public employees. Additionally, the IL seeks to extinguish state-owned enterprises that do not meet transparency standards, arguing that this will reduce waste and improve public services.
This move comes as part of the IL's broader agenda to streamline government operations and foster a more liberal economic environment in Portugal.
