The Regional Government of Madeira and its president, Miguel Albuquerque, have expressed their deepest sorrow over the passing of Emanuel Jardim Fernandes, a respected lawyer and former leader of the Socialist Party in Madeira. The announcement was made through a statement released to the media.

Emanuel Jardim Fernandes, aged 81, was a notable figure in Madeira's political landscape. He served as a deputy in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, being part of the first assembly in 1976, elected by the PS, a party he led for about 15 years. His political career was marked by significant contributions at various levels of governance.
His tenure included roles as a Member of the European Parliament (2004-2009) and the Assembly of the Republic (1983-1985 and 1991-1995). Additionally, he held positions as a councilor in the Funchal City Council and president of the Municipal Assembly of Porto Moniz, his hometown where he was born in Seixal.
The Madeira Executive joined in mourning, extending heartfelt condolences to his family and the Socialist Party. The government and its president aim to honor his memory, recalling his dedicated defense of his convictions and ideals.
