Portugal's Prime Minister, LuĂs Montenegro, has announced the launch of a tender for the construction of the Central Hospital of Algarve by early October. This new facility, set to operate under a public-private partnership, represents an investment of 800 million euros. The project is expected to commence in early 2027, with the hospital opening its doors by 2030.
In addition to the healthcare development, Montenegro revealed that everything is ready for the formal return of Formula 1 to the Algarve next year, marking a significant boost for the region's tourism and economy.
Addressing the current wildfire crisis, Montenegro described the situation as a "calamity" and a "tragedy", emphasizing the government's efforts to protect lives, property, and natural heritage. He refrained from a detailed assessment, stating, "We are in the midst of war, and it's not the time for such discussions."
On the topic of immigration, Montenegro advocated for "more regulated immigration" and criticized the politicization of judicial decisions. He stressed the importance of establishing rules that ensure a "more humanistic migration", protecting both the country and the immigrants.
