The Judiciary Police (PJ) is currently conducting searches at the City Hall of Vila Franca de Xira, specifically targeting the urban planning services of the municipality. This operation is being executed by inspectors from the National Unit for Combating Corruption, as confirmed by sources from the PJ after initial reports by Correio da Manhã.
The Mayor, Fernando Paulo Ferreira, a member of the Socialist Party, has acknowledged the ongoing police action, stating that the city council is cooperating with the authorities. However, he did not provide further details regarding the reasons for the PJ's presence.
The searches are focused on the Department of Urban Management located at Travessa do Telhal (the former municipal library) and do not extend to the main building of the City Council. It is anticipated that the municipality may issue a statement regarding the situation later today.
