Barbara Gonzalez Gomes, a former television journalist, traded the hustle and bustle of city life for the serene charm of her hometown in Abrantes, Portugal. Alongside her partner André and their daughters, Barbara embarked on a journey to create a home that radiates warmth and nostalgia, reminiscent of a grandmother’s house.
A Home Full of Life and History
The family’s four-bedroom townhouse is a beautiful blend of traditional Portuguese characteristics and personal touches. Barbara’s love for English cottage, provençal outdoor, and farmhouse styles shines through in every corner. The home is adorned with sentimental decor, much of which was passed down from her grandmother, making it a space that’s bursting with personality.
Preserving the Past
When they moved in, the house required only minor updates. Barbara chose to preserve its authentic charm, avoiding modern, minimalist trends. “Our home is like entering a grandmother’s house,” she says. “It is a mix of objects that were given to us by my grandmother, along with our own things.”
