Following its victory in the local elections, Luís Montenegro is preparing to negotiate the State Budget for 2026 in the Assembly of the Republic. It is scheduled for a general vote on Tuesday, with the final global vote set for November 27. From the outset, it is known that the bill outlining public accounts will be viabilized by the PS. The new PS leader's support for this was a long-standing position. José Luís Carneiro announced before being elected secretary-general in June that this was the political stance he advocated. He also defended it when he ran for and lost the leadership to Pedro Nuno Santos in December 2023.
