Sardine fishing using the seine net method will be prohibited in the Algarve from Saturday to Monday, as announced by the Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Security and Maritime Services (DGRM).
The ban on sardine capture applies specifically to the jurisdiction areas of the Olhãopesca and Barlapescas recognition ports' captaincies. This includes the captaincies of Olhão, Faro, Tavira, Vila Real de Santo António, Lagos, and Portimão, effective from 18:00 on Saturday (June 21) to 18:00 on Monday (June 23).
The seine net method involves deploying a long and high 'wall' of net to encircle the fish, in this case, sardines, from the sides and underneath, significantly reducing their escape chances.
The DGRM is a central service of the State's direct administration, with administrative autonomy, focused on enhancing maritime safety and services, executing fishing policies, and preserving marine resources.
