Another incident tarnishing Portuguese football has occurred. The junior championship match between Esperança de Lagos and Associação Académica da Bela Vista was marred by intense violence during the final minutes of the game.
The chaos began after a player from Bela Vista received a red card, leading to confrontations among the team members, fans, and officials, with no police presence at the venue, as it is no longer mandatory for matches.
The referee was forced to suspend the match with 15 minutes still on the clock. In a statement, the Authority for the Prevention and Combat of Violence in Sport (APCVD) announced an investigation into the incident, stating they would forward any relevant information to the Public Prosecutor's Office to aid in the pursuit of justice concerning criminal matters.
