A 72-year-old man was fatally shot near the Municipal Market of Sines on Tuesday morning, according to reports from Correio da Manhã and confirmed by sources from the Polícia Judiciária (PJ). The incident occurred around 9:30 AM, prompting an immediate response from authorities.
Investigation and Arrest
The GNR (Guarda Nacional Republicana) was first alerted to the shooting and, upon assessing the severity, involved the PJ to lead the investigation. The suspect fled the scene but was apprehended by GNR military personnel from the Cercal post at approximately 11:30 AM, ending a nearly two-hour manhunt.
Emergency Response and Confirmation
Medical teams from the Hospital do Litoral Alentejano confirmed the victim's death at the scene, with emergency services, including INEM (Instituto Nacional de Emergência Médica) and firefighters, mobilizing 20 operational staff and 10 vehicles. Initial reports suggest the homicide may be linked to a settling of scores, though the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact motives.
