A Hit in the Heart of Lisbon

The Teatro da Sociedade Cultural e Recreativa do Sobralinho has made a surprising leap to the prestigious Teatro Tivoli in Lisbon with their captivating play, ‘A Peça que dá para o torto’. This engaging comedy has caught the attention of audiences, selling out performances and prompting the production company UAU to extend the show's run until the end of May.

Behind the Scenes

The play is directed by Hannah Sharkey from the UK and Portuguese director Frederico Corado, who expressed his excitement about bringing the show to Portugal after witnessing it in London. In his words, “I spoke to Paulo Dias, the general director of UAU, about the project, and he agreed to create a ‘replica show’ — a faithful reproduction of the original.” The production features authentic sets and costumes imported from London, ensuring that the original spirit of the play is preserved.

Originally premiered during the pandemic, this is the third time the play has hit the stage, now boasting a refreshed cast. Corado emphasized the joy this experience brings, stating, “This show has the power to make us happy — which is quite significant in these times.”

The talented cast includes Afonso Lagarto, Ana Marta Contente, André Leitão, Duarte Grilo, Leonardo Proganó, Matilde Breyner, Telmo Ramalho, Valter Teixeira, Gabriel Palhais, Joana Pialgata, and Rodrigo Oliveira. Their performances are sure to leave audiences with smiles and laughter.
