Facing a crisis in working conditions, PSP officers at Lisbon Airport held a plenary session to voice their frustrations over issues like demotivation, fatigue, and excessive pressure. The event, organized by the Associação Sindical dos Profissionais da Polícia (ASPP), aimed to shed light on the deteriorating situation in passenger control at airport borders.
Paulo Santos from ASPP emphasized that officers are tired of being viewed as 'low-cost police' by the political powers and the current government. This sentiment stems from the transfer of border control responsibilities from the Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (SEF) to the PSP two years ago, which has led to ongoing challenges.

In addition to the plenary, ASPP leaders distributed informational materials to passengers outside the airport, detailing the current struggles in border control. This initiative coincides with a day marked by a high volume of flights to and from non-Schengen areas, potentially exacerbating delays.
The introduction of the new Entry/Exit System (EES) has been a significant source of problems, particularly at airports in Lisbon and Faro, causing further disruptions and highlighting the urgent need for government intervention to mitigate these issues.
