Lisbon's Mayor Welcomes Netflix Series
Carlos Moedas, the Mayor of Lisbon, has expressed his willingness to host the filming of the Netflix series 'Emily in Paris' in the Portuguese capital.
"You can contact me. I am available," the mayor stated in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter during the sidelines of the second edition of the Tribeca Festival Lisboa, which took place on Saturday.
Moedas also shared his aspiration for Lisbon to serve as a backdrop for international productions: "I hope that at some point, one of these producers, movie stars, or directors thinks it would be great to have a film called Lisbon. We have many stories to tell."
About 'Emily in Paris'
Created by Darren Star and starring Lily Collins, Emily in Paris premiered in 2020 and has become one of the biggest romantic comedy hits on the streaming platform. The story follows Emily Cooper, a young American woman who moves to Paris to work at a marketing agency, facing cultural shocks, professional challenges, and Parisian romances.
Series Filming Locations and Future Plans
The first three seasons were filmed in France, while the fourth included scenes in Italy. The fifth season, set to premiere on December 18, 2025, will feature Rome and Venice as its main settings.
Controversy Over Location Changes
The topic of changing filming locations has sparked debate. French President Emmanuel Macron even requested that the series remain in Paris, stating that "Emily in Paris in Rome doesn't make sense." In response, Rome's Mayor Roberto Gualtieri reacted on social media, defending that "Emily is doing very well in Rome" and that "you can't control the heart."
With Lisbon now offering itself as a stage, the Portuguese capital enters the race to host the popular Netflix production.
