Dental Assistant Fatally Stabbed in Quarteira Following Dispute
A 31-year-old man has been arrested by the Judicial Police (PJ) for the fatal stabbing of Nuno São Miguel Matos in Quarteira. The crime, which occurred on Afonso III Street last Wednesday around 8:00 PM, stemmed from a debt related to drug consumption habits of the victim.
Details of the Incident
The suspect, identified as a drug trafficker, allegedly acted over "apparently trivial motives" during a dispute linked to drug trafficking and consumption. Following a physical altercation, the victim was stabbed in the chest, leading to significant blood loss. Despite being assisted by INEM (National Institute of Medical Emergency) and transported to Faro Hospital, Nuno Matos was declared dead upon arrival.
Investigation and Arrest
The PJ detained the suspect two days after the crime, and he will await trial in preventive detention. Reports indicate that the suspect, who has connections to the construction sector, disposed of the knife used in the attack and refused to provide statements during his first judicial interrogation.
Victim's Background
A source close to the family described Nuno Matos as coming from "a family with a very good social, academic, and financial condition" and emphasized that he "had no involvement in illicit businesses." The victim worked as a dental assistant and was remembered as "a person who lived his life honestly, working hard, with much left to live for and build."
This tragic event highlights ongoing issues with drug-related violence in the community, raising concerns about public safety and the impact of narcotics on local residents.
