The village of Queiriz in Fornos de Algodres is facing a 'complicated situation' due to a rural fire that has been burning since Saturday in the neighboring municipality of Trancoso.
This front advanced intensely during the morning, coming from Aldeia Nova in Trancoso
The fire is now close to the village, with firefighters and locals working together to protect homes. Carlos Silva, the operational commander of the West, reported that while no houses have been affected, backyards, pastures, and a forest plantation have been burned.
A shift in wind direction could potentially aid the firefighting efforts by directing the flames towards already burned areas. However, reinforcements are currently not possible due to the high number of active incidents across the country.
Over 500 personnel, supported by 169 vehicles and five aerial units, are battling the blaze, which has already consumed approximately 12,000 hectares and affected 11 out of 21 parishes in Trancoso.
